One of our most common questions from clients is "How do you record the audio from my show?" Live venues are nortorious for wild sound, crowd or audience chatter, freezer hum, clinking glassware and room echo so our goal is to get the best audio possible for your video - Normally for basic show recording we take the following steps to record audio |
1. We record an audio scratch sync track within each of the cameras we use to film
the show or presentation and use the in-camera audio to sync the video tracks later in post production / editing
2. We also take a venue sound board feed into an audio recorder or the XLR input on the main camera to get the board feed
(*if output is available, venue allows for it and we get a co-operative in-house sound guy)
3. or we place an additional audio recorder at the stage to buypass crowd chatter and venue noise that would be picked up by Front of House cameras.
4. For public speakers, lecturers and presenter video we use a pro wireless Lav mic(s) for clean spoken audio
5. We record audio with lower volume to avoid distortion as its easier to bring up volume in editing and mastering then trying to fix blown-out audio.
AND
6. OPTIONAL A common request we get is to provide the
raw recorded audio track to the client (and their own audio engineer) for REMASTERING - then we will resync and replace the old audio in the final video with the new remasterd audio track. No extra charge.
7. OPTIONAL We bring in an audio tech dedicated purely to multi-track sound recording to record and mastering your audio who will then provide you (and us) with a master audio track. Though this will add $400-$700 to the video budget.
