Adding background music is common in the videos we produce - through the intro or over the end credits or in transitions to help the video flow much better

However You cannot use just any music you want in your video if you intend it for sharing, posting, distribution or pulic release. Generally if its a pop song or a song off an album it's no-go.

All music used in DTV video productions must be legally licensed with legal permissions to do so. It is the clients responsibility to assure us that all music submitted to us for use in or inclusion with any projects, video or livestreams will have all the legal permissions and music use liscences paid for or secured in place by the client previous to the start of editing. ( As we commonly edit to the beat and flow of the music ) this is essential for any post production

Services like YOUTUBE . TWITCH . VIMEO or FACEBOOK have algorithms that recognize this music in video content and can flag the use of music even if obscured.
may give you a copyright-strike and do horrible things to your video and or channel.

Yes some people get away with it - but we won't risk it

Commonly we film live musicians so the musicians themselves have the rights to their own recordings and the music they compose , arrange and perform. so generally this will not be an issue for them unless they are doing covers of various pop songs. However non musician clients will have to either buy their music from stock music services like ENVATO ELEMENTS, AUDIIO, EPIDEMIC SOUND, or ARTLIST.IO or get permission to use or feature a track from their musican friend
